Two Individuals Compete at State
Two Holy Family student-athletes are set to finish their high school careers on a high note with berths to the state tournament competitions.
Holy Family senior Michael Frost is set to compete in the MSHSL Class A state tennis tournaments. Frost won the true second match in section 2A to earn a trip to state. Frost earned the No. 2 seed in the singles bracket and won his first two matches in two sets before facing top seed Marty Anderson of St. Peter in the championship. He will play Max Sampson of Mora Secondary in the first round on June 8 at 8 a.m. at the Reed-Sweatt Tennis Center in Minneapolis. Quarterfinals and the consolation bracket will follow the first round that day at noon, with the tournament continuing on June 9.
Holy Family senior Logan Paulsen is also competing as an individual athlete. She earned a trip to state in discus, her first appearance having missed a berth by just one spot during her junior year. After breaking records in the shot put and discus at the Wright County East Conference championships on May 16, Paulsen won the Section 6AA discus competition with a throw of 124 feet and one inch – almost four inches further than the Class 2A state qualifying distance. She also finished fourth in the shot put (34’9.5”).
Paulsen’s discus throw set a section 6AA record and was almost six feet further than the second-place throw by Litchfield junior Grace Schmidt (118’7”). Her next goal is a first-place finish at the MSHSL Class AA Track and Field State Tournament at St. Michael-Albertville High School. She competes at the preliminaries at 10:15 a.m. on Friday, June 9.
