The visual arts are integral to the intellectual, emotional, and physical growth of students. Visual art provides an opportunity for students to be expressive in different media. Higher order thinking skills develop. At the same time, there is a need for people who are creative, good problem solvers, and independent workers. The visual arts help students develop these qualities. Art education is also designed to help students learn to value God’s beautiful creations.
Within the visual arts curriculum is additional opportunities to display artwork along with other high school art programs in Minnesota State High School League-sanctioned section and state competitions. Artists may also submit work in various art competitions such as the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards and the Congressional Art Competition.
Multiple arts shows throughout the year highlight student pieces and creativity. The visual arts on display include photography, ceramic sculpture, painting, drawing, videography, and animation. A student artist is the creator of the art for the annual school Christmas card.
