Girls Swim & Dive

Holy Family Swim & Dive athletes participate in the Mound Westonka Holy Family co-op team.  Coached by Ben Hanson, swim practices are held at the Mound Westonka High School pool every day after school and on Saturdays during the season.  The girls Swim and Dive team is part of the Wright County Conference, Section 3A, Class A.

The Holy Family swim team is a competitive program which sends athletes to the MSHSL State Class A Swim Meet annually.  In 2019 the team placed 3rd in Sections and 14th at State.  Annabelle Elsner (captain), Zella Lucas and Ellen Ries earned All-Conference and qualified for the State Meet.  Zella and Ellen earned All-State with top 8 finishes at the meet.  The team placed 4th at Sections in 2020, edged out of third place by only 3 points (the State meet was cancelled due to the pandemic).  Holy Family swimmers Ellen Ries, Catherine Dueck and Abigail Ries were named All-Conference and qualified for the State Meet.  Ellen and Catherine were named All-State based on Section rankings.  Ellen Ries has been named team captain for the 2021 season.

Coach Hanson seamlessly blends the two schools’ athletes to form one strong, close knit team which fosters competitive swimming and lasting friendships.  Holy Family swim team alumni continue to college programs such as University of West Virginia, University of Maryland and University of Sioux Falls.
