Girls Basketball

In her first year as head coach of Fire Girls Basketball head coach, Ellen Thompson and her assistant coaches brought the Fire to their first state tournament appearance to compete with the best high school girls basketball programs in Minnesota. The program looks to remain strong with a great depth of talent and opportunity.

Fire Girls Basketball has a long history of sending players to the college ranks including most recently Hannah Schonhardt ’12 at D1 University of Northern Iowa, Michaela Rasmussen ’13 to D1 University of Dayton, and Molly Smith ’16 to D1 Marist College. Multiple players are also playing with regional universities such as Gustavus Adolphus College and the University of St. Thomas.

Ellen Thompson

Ellen Thompson was the varsity head girls’ basketball coach for Hopkins High School (1992-1999), assistant coach for the University of St. Thomas women’s basketball program (1999-2005), and the head women’s basketball coach for Macalester College (2005-2014). While at Macalester College, Thompson was twice named the MIAC Coach of the year.
